Why the prep matters

Anyone can put paint on a wall. The difference shows up two years later.

Most painting complaints are not about colour. They are about edges that were never cut in properly, filler that was never sanded, trim that was painted over grease, and a house that was left dusty.

We work the other way around. The majority of our hours on any job go into preparation — filling, sanding, caulking, priming and protecting — because that is what decides whether the finish still looks right after a few New England winters.

Before and after

Drag the roller. Same room, same cabinets.

Refinishing is the highest-return work in a house — a kitchen or a built-in wall changes completely without replacing a single cabinet.

How a job runs

Five stages, and you know where we are in all of them.

Walkthrough and written estimateProtection and setupRepair and preparationFinish coatsInspection and cleanup
  1. 01

    Walkthrough and written estimate

We come to the house, look at every surface in the scope, and send a written estimate that lists what is included — prep, number of coats, products and timeline. No verbal numbers.

  2. 02

    Protection and setup

Furniture is moved and wrapped, floors are covered, and adjacent rooms are sealed off. Outlet covers, switch plates and hardware come off rather than getting masked around.

  3. 03

    Repair and preparation

Filling, taping, sanding, caulking and priming. This is the longest stage of the job and the one that determines how the finish looks in five years.

  4. 04

    Finish coats

Cut in by hand, rolled or sprayed depending on the surface, and coated to the manufacturer’s specification. Two finish coats unless the substrate calls for more.

  5. 05

    Inspection and cleanup

We walk the job with you in daylight, mark anything you want touched up, and finish it before we load out. Hardware goes back on, the space is cleaned and the room is usable.

Questions

Before you call anyone.

Still unsure about something? Call and ask. We would rather answer it now than have you find out later.

(781) 000-0000
Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. L&D Painting Inc carries $2,000,000 in general liability coverage plus workers’ compensation for everyone on site, year-round. We can send a certificate of insurance naming you or your property manager before work starts.

How much does painting a room cost?

It depends on the surfaces, the condition they are in and how much repair they need — a room with cracked plaster and stained trim is a different job than a repaint of clean drywall. We give you a written, itemised estimate after seeing the space, and the number does not change unless the scope does.

Do I need to move out while you work?

No. Most of our work is in occupied homes. We work room by room, seal off the areas we are in, and leave the rest of the house clean and usable at the end of each day.

How long does a job take?

A single room is usually one to two days. A whole-home interior runs one to three weeks depending on size and prep. Cabinet refinishing is typically four to six days from masking to reinstalling doors. You get a schedule with the estimate.

What paint do you use?

Professional-grade coatings from the major manufacturers, chosen for the surface and how the room gets used. We list the exact product and sheen on the estimate so you know what is going on your walls.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our workmanship is guaranteed — if the finish fails because of how it was prepared or applied, we come back and fix it. Details are on the written estimate.

Which areas do you serve?

We work throughout Greater Boston, including Malden, Medford, Melrose, Everett, Winthrop, Revere, Somerville, Stoneham and the surrounding towns.

Do you paint kitchen cabinets, or only walls?

Cabinet refinishing is one of the things we do most. Doors come off and get sprayed, boxes are sprayed in place with full containment, and the kitchen is put back together with the hardware reinstalled.
